Pau Bach a C5 quadriplegic from Barcelona has revolutionised wheelchair mobility
In 1996 Pau Bach was on his way to Barcelona from Sant Curat when tragically his life was changed in a split second.
Pau now a C5/6 Quadraplegic was forced into career changing decisions and he retrained into computing from his former career plan to enter industrial design because as a spinally injured person with limited function that was the only option available.
As an independant young man Pau did not wish to use a powered wheelchair so he set about reinventing the world of mobility from a lightweight wheelchair, and in 2001 he made a manually powered handcycle that attached to his everyday wheelchair and with this increased his mobility. But for Pau his goal was not complete, the level areas and slight inclines were easier but Sant Curat where he lived and had done since he was a boy was full of hills. So in 2003 he improved his mobility ten fold by adding a battery and motor and the beginning of what we now know as the Batec was born.
Originally known as AT Bach, the Batec company designed created, improved, remodelled and expanded the range which now includes the Batec Electric, Electric 4Quads, Manual, Manual 4Quads and Hybrid versions.
