Making sure your wheelchair fits you perfectly

Unless you are a fairly experienced user, you won’t realise just how bad it is having a standard off-the-shelf or poorly customised wheelchair. Both the health and psychological problems caused by a badly fitting wheelchair can have a negative impact on your qualify of life and having the confidence to face the new challenges being in a wheelchair presents.

That is why at Cyclone, we only offer custom wheelchairs – but what exactly does this customisation cover? Well, for a start, everybody is different – height, weight arm and leg length etc differ from person to person. This means our advisors (who are all wheelchair users themselves), spend a great deal of time understanding your requirements, lifestyle and body shape.

  • L – Seat width
  • P – Seat length
  • HA – Seat height at the front
  • HP – Seat height at the rear
  • HS – Back rest height
  • DP – Distance from the foot rest to front of seat

But, these are only the start of what needs to be known to get a perfect-fitting custom wheelchair. Everything from the camber of the rear wheels to the shape of the front frame can be specified on nearly all the models we sell.

Then, there are the cosmetic choices like the frame and upholstery colour as well as the choice of footrest, side guards, rear wheels, handrims and castors. All of these are necessary to ensure your chair works for you as you are likely to be in it for most of the time you are awake, for at least the next few years.
